This cryptically marked Mullein moth was on a granite wall outside a hotel in Falmouth in South West Cornwall on the 21st of March.
This is over a month earlier than the species would normally be seen in Cornwall and follows the early sighting of a Hummingbird Hawkmoth in a Falmouth garden a few days earlier.
The adult Mullein moth is less frequently seen than its brightly coloured caterpillars that feast on yellow flowering Mullein plants in gardens throughout much of the southern half of the UK.
