Photographic galleries of European butterflies
The European butterfly galleries include many of the species to be found in continental Europe as well as the British Isles. Many of Paul Browning’s excellent photographs of Spanish butterflies taken during many years of recording in Spain are featured.
Butterfly species are grouped into families according generally accepted taxonomical classifications, although this continues to cause much debate and will no doubt continue to evolve.
Many species have regional forms and variations, some of which may warrant reclassification as separate species or sub species in the future. The identification of several species in the field can be uncertain.
