The Catalonia region of Spain is well known for having some wonderful butterflies.
One of the most beautiful is the stunning Swallowtail Butterfly, Papilio machaon. Lieve De Strooper took this great photo of one feeding on zinnia flowers in her garden in Tortosa.
Another butterfly Lieve recorded on the same brightly coloured flowers was a Cardinal Butterfly. A Convolvulus Hawkmoth caterpillar was also seen on the ground, presumably on its way to pupate.
More Spanish butterflies can be seen in the European Buttery gallery and Spanish butterfly gallery.
Photographs of butterflies, moths and caterpillars are welcome from around the world as part of either an identification enquiry or a sighting.
Where used, photographs may appear with accreditation in either latest sightings, galleries or species pages.
Copyright of photographs remain with the photographer. All images submitted and shared will hopefully help raise awareness of these precious insects. Thank you, Steve.
