Similar in size and shape to a Chaffinch and often seen amongst mixed finch flocks feeding on Beech mast in woods and on grain left in stubble fields. In flight their white rumps are visible and help identify them from Chaffinch. During severe winter weather large numbers will enter the UK from Scandinavia. |
