The weather may have turned unsettled in south west Cornwall but overwintering Red Admiral butterflies and caterpillars seem to be surviving
The occasional Red Admiral butterfly in flight and their caterpillars are now recorded in every month.
However, Large White butterfly caterpillars in January are very rare.
Dave Lewis recorded them in his winter veg patch. The first time in over 40 years gardening in Cornwall he’d seen them in January.
Thank you, Dave, for your sighting – despite you understandably not appreciating them!
