School wildlife project

Good news stories are always welcome, particularly when they combine children and wildlife.

This one was received as background information to an enquiry from Carole Protherough about a caterpillar found on a school playing field in a small village in Herefordshire.

She is part of a group who have been undertaking a project with the local primary school to sow wild meadow seed and plant bug friendly flowers on the playing field.

And it was whilst planting wild daffodil and bluebell plants with children that a little boy found the green Angle Shades caterpillar shown right.

The adult Angle Shades may be an extraordinarily shaped moth (see link) but, on this occasion, the real stars of the show were those helping to create a wildlife haven for the children to experience.

Oh, and, of course, the little boy who found the caterpillar! Well done.

Thanks, Carole, keep up the good work.

Hopefully, there will be many similar stories to come.
