The best bird of Christmas surprisingly wasn’t a turkey but a Grey Phalarope that turned up just around the corner from us on Falmouth’s Castle beach

True to form it was very confiding, allowing me to approach over the rocks close to where it was feeding amongst the sea weed.

The bird certainly looked far more in keeping with its surroundings than the last one I photographed on a water filled bunker in the middle of a golf course.
