Rabbits by National Trust car park at Lizard Point

Feeding on crops in a field beside the National Trust car park, this pale rabbit stood out. At first glance it looked more the colour of a domesticated rabbit when compared to the normal much darker rabbits around it. Still I shouldn’t think the farmer cared what colour it was!

Insight into Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus): one of the most common mammals to be found in the UK and a major pest to farmers.

Their numbers do fluctuate in line with outbreaks of myxomatosis, a disease that normally kills them but in recent years they have shown an increasing resistance to the condition.
