White and Yellow Butterflies of the Pieridae family in Europe

The Pieridae butterfly family is well represented in Europe and includes many of the commonest white butterflies, notably the ‘Cabbage Whites’, considered pests of garden brassica vegetables. Also included are the ‘yellow butterflies’ such as Brimstone, Cleopatra and Clouded Yellows. Orange-tip butterflies are also part of the Pieridae family, with the often less distinctively marked females showing similarities with other species of white butterfly.

The gallery contains many of the commoner species found throughout Europe and include Paul Browning’s excellent Spanish butterfly photographs.
