It’s appeal is that it provides an instant visual guide to the national distribution of all but the least likely macro species to be encounted without having to trawl through the internet or contact county recorders. Hence, understandably, species either considered extinct or very rare immigrants such as The Geometrician (shown below) have been omitted.
Records up to the end of July 2010 are included but, of course, the rapidly changing distribution of certain species and improved recording as part of the successful National Moth Recording Scheme (NMRS) means it will soon become dated. Nevertheless, it will still be a valuable resource for years to come.
I understand the book is already having to be reprinted due to demand but anyone interested should contact Butterfly Conservation.
