Bright Green Caterpillar

A caterpillar of the Angle Shades moth, Phlogophora meticulosa, was dug up while preparing the vegetable bed for planting of early lettuces.

Despite being covered will soil it was a brilliant green and easily noticed amongst the leaf litter.

I don’t think I’m designed for digging but the possibility of unearthing a caterpillar certainly acts as an incentive.

Angle Shades are a common species of moth in the British isles and are at least double brooded. The caterpillars can be found at anytime of the year and vary in colour from bright green to brown.
