Spindle in flower

Spindle is better known for its bright pink fruit in the autumn and its flowers are rather insignificant for a small tree. The flowers are just beginning to open on this tree near Pendennis Point in Falmouth, Cornwall.

It was quite difficult to concentrate on taking this photo as a Robin in the Blackthorn alongside was keen to get on the action!

The wood of a Spindle tree is very dense and it was used to make spindles and other small items.
