British wild flowers: Wood Anemone

with No Comments
As its name suggest you would expect to find this flower in a wooded area but we came across a patch of Wood Anemones out in the open on the coastal heathland near St Ives.

Even in poor light these delicate white flowers with a hint of pink and many yellow stamens are quite beautiful.

Insight into Wood Anemone (Anemone nemorosa): a native that flowers from March to May, it is found throughout the British Isles. It is abundant in woodlands but, as we discovered, it is also found on grassy heathland.

A member of Ranunculaceae, the buttercup family.
