Moth pupa: Angle Shades

with No Comments
An Angle Shades moth (latin name Phlogophora meticulosa) emerged last night from the reddish brown pupa found when clearing out some old cast iron guttering in January. More identification and rearing information can be seen on this Angle Shades moth link

Although this wasn’t a great surprise as it’s a common moth found in the garden it’s very difficult to know for sure what species will emerge from a pupa and you can’t help hoping for something rare.

However, despite not being certain of what the emerging species will be it is possible to see certain features of the moth developing inside the pupa. In this case the antennae can clearly be seen.
