Swanpool Lake birds: Goldeneye

with No Comments
This Goldeneye has been seen twice in the last few days on Swanpool Lake in Falmouth, Cornwall. The plumage and yellow eye suggests a female but at times it has flung back its head as a male Goldeneye does during a Spring courtship display!

Insight into Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula): a common winter visitor to the UK from Scandinavia and Northern Europe, the only breeding population in the UK is in the Highlands of Scotland where nestboxes placed in trees close to lakes have proven successful.
