with No Comments
These hoverflies are quite common in Cornwall. This one was busy on the grassland between Poldhu Cove and Church Cove on The Lizard.

Insight into Sphaerophoria scripta: a long and thin hoverfly, its marking are very variable although there is always a yellow stripe on either side of the thorax.

It is abundant throughout the UK up to northern England but scarcer further north. It is found on grassland between May and October and the larvae overwinter and then feed on aphids.
