They say the English are eccentric – in our defence the paleness of the butterfly as it passed suggested it could be the rarer migrant Pale Clouded Yellow (Colias hyale) or the relatively common Clouded Yellow form ‘helice‘ . However, despite its worn appearance there seems enough yellow colouring showing through its forewing to suggest it is a Clouded Yellow but we will take a second opinion on it.
Cornwall Butterflies: Clouded Yellow

This worn Clouded Yellow butterfly was seen outside the Minack Theatre near Land’s End in Cornwall. While the hoards of camera-wielding foreign tourists were busily taking shots of the approach to the world famous open-air theatre we were running up and down trying to grab a picture of a butterfly!
