Marazion birds – Mute Swan and cygnet

with No Comments
A pair of Mute Swan at the RSPB Marazion Marsh reserve near Penzance seem to have managed to raise only one cygnet this year. This means of course the surviving youngster receives all the attention and is utterly spoilt.

Insight into Mute Swan (Cygnus olor): the only breeding species of swan in the UK. The other two species, Bewick’s Swan (Cygnus columbianus) and Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus), both nest in the northern tundra and migrate south to the UK in the winter.
