Comma butterfly at Penhale Dunes, Cornwall

with No Comments

This Comma butterfly seen basking in warm sunshine at Penhale Dunes on the North coast of Cornwall was one of several seen in the last week at different Cornish locations. Other March sightings included ones in Falmouth and Glendurgan Gardens on the Helford River.

Hopefully this indicates a good year for this uniquely shaped British butterfly.

Other early butterflies recently seen Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and the chrysalis of a Wall Brown found while searching for moth larvae.

An early Hummingbird Hawkmoth and Mullein Moth were notable March sightings.

More butterflies can be seen in the British butterfly gallery and European Butterfly galleries.

Caterpillars are featured in the Butterfly caterpillar galleries and Moth caterpillar galleries
