Unfurling fronds of Hart’s-tongue

with No Comments
The new fronds are always a picture at this time of year.

Insight: Hart’s-tongue (Asplenium scolopendrium) is an evergreen fern in the Spleenwort family (Aspleniaceae) which grows best in shaded, damp areas. It is an unusual fern, having an undivided blade.

According to Culpeper’s Complete Herbal, it “is good for the passions of the heart“, “will stay the hiccough” and “is a good remedy for the biting of serpents” amongst other uses. Not just pretty then!
