Our first Holly Blue of the year was seen in the garden on the 26th March. 6th species of the year – only 52 to go!
As so often with this species it stopped only briefly giving little opportunity to photo.
In the past our best early photo opportunities have come when the butterfly has been found resting or feeding on honeydew/moisture on the leaves of garden camellia. However, finding one with wings fully open is rare! Although, can happen, as we once luckily experienced with Clouded Yellow Butterflies
Newly emerging butterflies to look out for Orange-tip and whites
Still haven’t seen a Painted Lady or Red Admiral
Life cycles of many other butterfly and moth species are featured in species pages.
