This was our first visit to the magnificent Trebah Garden at Mawnan Smith near Falmouth. Failed miserably to photograph a Firecrest energetically feeding amongst some conifers. However, the light was too good to waste so we snapped some early signs of spring and a few of the local inhabitants. The amazing number of Robin suggest the garden supports a large number of over-wintering migrants. We look forward to returning very soon.

Insight into Trebah Garden: A sub-tropical garden with a history recorded back to 1086. For more information go to the Trebah Garden website which says it is “One of the Great Gardens of Cornwall and rated among the 80 finest gardens in the world“.

Insight into Robin: A bird everyone knows and seems to love but, in reality, it’s a ferocious fighter. It’s highly territorial and prepared to defend its territory against imposters to the death. In winter large numbers of Robin fly in from the European Continent and their presence may be tolerated by resident birds until the spring.
