Over one hundred Grey Seal were spotted lying on a sheltered shingle beach in the shadow of the cliffs near Godrevy Point. This is one of several great Cornwall seawatching places where seals and other marine animals can be seen

There are many names for the Grey Seal (see Insight below) and that’s not to mention the unprintable names used by fishermen to describe these sea mammals. Enough to give anyone a persecution complex!

Insight: This is the seal most commonly seen around the British Isles. The translated scientific name is ‘Hooked-nosed’ seal. Other names include Horsehead Seal and Long-nosed Seal. The extended nose readily identifies it from the Common Seal which is also found around the British Isles coastline.
